Before you read this…If personal political views piss you off, don’t read any further…Also, If cussing pisses you off, stop reading. There disclaimer done.
So, I will be the very first one to admit that I am not knowledgeable in up to the date world events. I actually do this on purpose because the news is mostly horrific, hateful, sad, doomsday like and every other negative thing you can think of…sprinkled with some good cheer once in awhile as to not have you slit your wrists or jump off of buildings because gosh darn it, the world is too depressing to live in.
Therefore I will probably piss someone off by trying to talk about current political topics, but I read one of my list of interesting blogs today and there was an interesting post on the healthcare reform written by http://blurbomat.com. He basically runs down what is going on with the debate, what we can hope to expect and some good sources to do your own research on. I did…I read the New York Times article he suggested and I also read a very short but sweet rundown of what is to be expected from the one and only White House itself.
Here is the interesting thing for me…of course it is always about me…now I will quote from the White House…
- No Discrimination for Pre-Existing Conditions
- Insurance companies will be prohibited from refusing you coverage because of your medical history.
AMEN TO THAT ONE!!!
Let’s just hope and pray and cross our fingers that this shall become truth!
We are going to dig into Jolene’s history for just a moment and help everyone understand why I hope those Sons of a Bitches called the Insurance Companies can go to Hell in a hand basket and rot till well…forever and then be re-incarnated into a mosquito that gets swatted the very first time it tries to bite a human and then well, then they can be re-incarnated once more to the poor sap who has to work by Nina in corporate accounting and listen to her answer the phone all day! Trust me they will hate me for that life and gladly poke their eyes out! I still might not feel as if they will have their just punishment though for the bullshit that they have put me and my family through!
Wow…glad I got that one off my chest!
Back to why they are such Sons of a Bitches. Because of one little word…un-insurable. In layman’s terms that means…give me all of your effin’ money Jolene…give it alllllll to me, Mr. Insurance Prick!
Okay, real story now. See when Travis became his own boss and I stopped working at Aramark, we needed to get individual health coverage. We shopped around and found a decent rate for the family which would include maternity for me since we were eventually planning on having another baby. I’m making this sound like it was easy, but in reality getting maternity coverage when you are not employed by anyone who offers group health care is almost impossible. Now, when you are self-insured, they basically can tell you when you can and can’t do things. So we had to wait to start the baby making process for one year of full coverage. We did that and then we started trying for the next baby. Funny thing happened though…I did get pregnant and opps…the insurance company called ASSHOLES decided to drop my maternity coverage, because well, they felt like it!
Well now I’m preggers and no insurance company will touch me with a 10 foot pole. We found a loophole in the situation though (can’t get to descriptive with that, sorry) and we were able to have coverage again. Well, most of you know the story…lost baby number two and went through some painful crap and then got preggers with baby number three. Things were fine, but then the loophole stopped working basically one month after Blake was born…at least we squeaked on by with that one.
Now please remember that we are paying our premiums and we are trying to be responsible…We were actually paying a crap load of money each month to be responsible, to make sure we weren’t a burden to anyone else’s pocket books. But, because we don’t work minimum wage jobs and because we are trying to make a decent financial life for us and our children, we just get ripped a new one when it comes to health care…they want every last dime of ours and they don’t want to give us shit.
Back to why I hope the new health bill will go through…
We found out through lots of tests that I have a blood disorder that only effects me while I am pregnant. I had to take heparin shots twice a day in my pregnant belly as to keep my blood thin enough to flow through the placenta and keep Blake alive. If I didn’t do that, he would be where Sydney is. So, I did it…happy to, but now I am marked as someone with a non-changing disorder. Again, let me state this problem only effects me during pregnancy and something to be aware of when having major operations like a C-section.
They don’t read the fine print that says, “she is perfectly healthy as long as she doesn’t get pregnant again.” They, meaning insurance companies also fail to read that, “I have had my tubes tied and my husband has had a vasectomy so there is basically no chance in hell that I will become pregnant again in this lifetime.”
They still won’t insure me…
So now I am on some HIPPA wanna be an answer to giving the un-insured health care which is costing me about $600 a month. Me, a completely healthy person who since paying this said $600 per month has only used my insurance to re-fill one prescription. That’s it ladies and gentleman…them taking the shirt off my back because of a pre-existing condition gets me very, VERY expensive pills that I only took for seven days.
All that ranting for the simple explanation that the system is messed way, way up. That people like me really need the change. I know everyone has their own opinion, but if you think you are paying for other peoples insurance…think of my situation. Not only am I paying for said “other” people, but I am also paying for the summer mansion and yacht the CEO of Blue Cross “kiss my ass you have all my money” Blue Shield just bought this year with his “I robbed Peter and kept all his money” bonus he just got.
To sum up my craziness…It may not be perfect for all, but the insurance companies need to be reformed. They need the government to step in and to take at least part of the business over. I’m not sure I believe in universal health care, but I do believe that I should get fair coverage for a fair price…no matter if I am rich, poor, self-employed, or employed by big business. I feel that I should have similar coverage as everyone else and if I want and/or need extra coverage then I will be happy to pay for it. I believe we all should get our fair share and pay our fair share. I don’t want a hand-out, I just want what is right. Oh and since I’m asking for the world, I would love it if the government understood that not every small business means more than one employee. Sometimes a small business is just one person and that person and their family need health care too.
Okay, nuff said…I’m scared to say this, but comments are open for your own say or opinion…speak out!
