The Game of Life…

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

This past weekend was supposed to be calm and relaxing.  Travis and Brook went on a camping trip sponsored by Brook’s school to Sunset Crater.  They went with Scott and Ellie and a few other people from the Montessori.

From what I was told, they had a blast…they hiked the Lave Fields and visited an old Native American Ruins.  The kids all played well together and Scott and Travis had fun hanging out having a couple of beers after the girls went to sleep in their tents.  It was Brook’s first camping trip and I think she had a great time and will want to do it again.

So, back to the supposed to be relaxing part…

On Saturday, I got a call from Mom F. freaking out because Shannon called her and told her, “not to worry, but I’ve been struck by lightning Mom,” before the connection broke.  Mom F. wanted me to find her and to figure out how to get help to Shannon.

Honestly, struck by lightning?

At first, I had a hard time believing it…it just wasn’t sinking in…who gets hit by lightning?

But after a few minutes of digesting the news, I started to get concerned.  I knew she was hiking in Globe with her friends, but I didn’t know which mountain range.  I started calling the fire department and hospitals, but no one answered the phone.  I finally got a hold of someone at the Globe Police Department.  She told me she hadn’t heard of the accident, but she was State of Globe and not County of Globe.  She told me to hold on and she would find out if the County was dealing with this case.

They were and through her I found out that there were no casualties and two people were being Medivaced back to Phoenix.

CASUALTIES???  I know she said no casualties, but hearing that still freaked me out.  Karen (Shannon’s BHF – best hiking friend), called me soon after that and told me which hospital Shannon was at.

I rushed right over there and when I got there, I was informed I couldn’t see her with Blake…I was trying to hold back tears soooo badly, I just wanted to see my friend for myself and make sure the doctors were right about her prognosis.  Luckily, two nurses came out and said they would watch Blake so I could see her and I took them up on their offer.

I rushed to her room and when I saw her, I couldn’t hold back my tears anymore…I hugged her and told her she only had seven more lives left, so she better use them wisely!  (I count the Harley accident as life number 1).

For her version of the story visit her blog, it’s crazy to read about someone getting struck by lightning.

She really is okay…she’s a little sore and has some minor tingling and dizziness, but nothing that won’t get better with time.

Really though, it’s amazing that she survived with barely a scratch…it really makes you appreciate life and the small moments.

In the game of life, there are sometimes unexpected twists and turns and really all we can do is live in the moment, love hard and laugh often.

Glad you are okay buddy!

A Year In Pictures – Days 42-48…

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

This past week we went to Tucson to visit family and go to my brother’s wedding…We celebrated Labor Day and the kids endured the well-check visit, which really should be called torture your child with tons of shots!  I bet if I look back, I can maybe start to see a change in Blake.  And speaking of Blake, he is almost an all night sleeper…He gave me 7 full hours last night (that’s my sleep not his) and I go to bed around 10pm…so, we have great progress people!

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but Brook has to hold Blake’s hand in every picture…I of course think that this is simply adorable!

The Dreaded Shots…

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Yesterday both Blake and Brook had their immunizations – well check doctor’s appointment.  I learned something from this…

I like when they are babies and have no idea what the word shots mean.

Brook flipped out…like I am pretty sure she scared every child in that doctor’s office kind of flip out.  Poor thing though had to wait forever once she found out she had to get her shots, so the anticipation was killing her!  I had to hold her down WWF style, so the nurse could give her four shots.  Then after that Blake got three.

Then the doctor informed me that we had to go and her her blood drawn today for testing…Like she wasn’t tortured enough already…but, we did it.  That took three nurses and myself to draw her blood.  I held her, one nurse held her arm, one took the blood and one held Blake.  At least for her it’s only once a year.

After it was all said and done, I took the kids to Barnes and Noble for a snack at the coffee shop and to buy a book for being so good while getting poked and prodded.  Now they have low grade fevers and feel crummy, but hopefully this will in the long run keep them healthy.

A Perfect Summer Afternoon…

Brook Playing in the Fountains at Desert Ridge

Brook Playing in the Fountains at Desert Ridge

Today after I picked Brook up from school I took the kids to Desert Ridge as a special Friday treat.  We went to the toy store, had a snack at Rubio’s (Brook’s favorite) and then I let Brook splash around in the fountains.  There is nothing better than watching a smiling and laughing little girl cool off on a hot summer afternoon.

Blake was content sitting in his stroller, watching all the other kids splash around and have some fun.  Later, Travis met us and then we all went out to dinner and spent a wonderful summer evening together.

It’s moments like this that make me…

A) Fall in love with my husband all over again

B) Fall in love with my children even more

C) Reminds me that nothing is more important than family

D) Reminds me that my life is wonderful, amazing, happy and complete.

A Year In Pictures Days 36-41

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

So my Canon broke…it’s very sad and I ‘m sending it in tomorrow to somewhere in California where they will diagnose and fix the problem.   That being said, there are two days worth of pictures that can not be replaced…they are lost forever…bummer.  So, we will pretend those days didn’t happen and just put up what I have will my little crappy PowerShot…these are better than nothing.

Also, please notice the different chair…That is because we headed down southwest for season.  Wisconsin was fun, but it was time to go back home.  I must say Phoenix is really where my heart is…so without further adieu.

Oh..PS…Just in case you haven’t noticed…Brook always has to hold Blake’s hand…cutest thing ever!
