Just When I Think I Know Him…

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

He’s cute and cuddly and his laugh is contagious, but…

He now thinks it’s funny to pull Mommy’s hair.  Before, he would caress and “pet” it, but as of yesterday he gave it a good tug and thought it was the funnest thing ever!  So, he did it over and over and over…

My hair will now be in a ponytail for the next 6 or so months, get used to seeing me in one hairstyle only people!

Also, I was just bragging that he is finally sleeping through the night.  That he has been going down from around 7:30pm and getting up between 5:30 to 6am and then going back down after a bottle for another hour or so…

THIS WAS AWESOME!

Was is the key word in the last sentence.  He is back to getting up between 3am and 4am.  This would be fine, but the last two nights he actually wanted to get “up” for the day.  Let’s get up and go, he said in his baby ways.  He was so noisy and fussy about going to bed after his early morning bottle that I had to go back in his room and comfort him back to a sleepy state…Three hours of my sleep gone.

When no one sleeps well through the night because of him and then in the morning Brook decides to sleep in, I let her.  We are always late to her school because of this and I am sure the teacher hates me for it, but here is the thing…

I need my sleep!  So do the kids.  I figure she is a better student while she is there because she is well rested and I am less of a psycho Mommy because sometimes Blake doesn’t just wake me up…he wakes her up too.

You never understand the power of sleep until you are a parent and then after that it seems like your world is really only about sleep.  Well that and poop.

On another thought…if you were like me and up around 4am last night, did you see the moon?  Here it was beautiful!  It was a crescent moon, but it was very large and so bright that you could see the outline of the rest of it.  Also, there was a planet on it’s left which was just as big and bright.  It was the highlight of my 4am wake up call.

Well, he can always sleep through tonight, we will see.

My Baby at Seven Months…

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Yesterday, Blake celebrated seven months…I can’t believe it went this fast already!  I thought I would jot down some special things he does at this age, so I can remember when both him and I are older.

Blake at Seven Months

Blake at Seven Months

1 – He loves cloth.  If it is material he put it in his mouth or he pets it…he loves the feeling of material.

2 – When he is sleepy he will caress my hair if it is down.  I think this is another texture thing, but I find it adorable.

3 – Another sleepy thing is his right arm has to be wrapped around my underarm, so he can hold on to me (or anyone who is putting him to sleep).  It seems like when he is tired he likes to touch, love, caress, this is when he is so tender, even at such a young age.

4 – His tickle spot is his left side by his belly.  He will giggle uncontrollably if you can find that spot.  We tickle him with kisses there and he loves it.

5 – He is addicted to TV already…I don’t put it on for him, but if Brook is watching a program, he is memorized.

6 – He will stick out his tongue because we think it’s funny.

7 – He will make zerbert noises if he wants his belly zerberted.

8 – He is so very interested in adult food.  Even if you puree what you have, he is more interested in the original form of the food…he may just be my chef.

9 – This is more about Brook…She is absolutely in love with Blake.  She has to hold his hand all the time and she thinks she can marry him.  It’s cute, she’s four.

10 – He can sit up, roll over and he’s thinking about crawling although we aren’t promoting it.  Oh, and he doesn’t sign yet, but he knows what the sign for milk, more, food and finish is.  If he wants one, he will vocalize it with grunts if he sees the sign.

11 – He’s in the 97% percentile for height and 82% for weight…he’s a big guy!

He’s my little guy and I love him!

A Year In Pictures – Days 42-48…

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

This past week we went to Tucson to visit family and go to my brother’s wedding…We celebrated Labor Day and the kids endured the well-check visit, which really should be called torture your child with tons of shots!  I bet if I look back, I can maybe start to see a change in Blake.  And speaking of Blake, he is almost an all night sleeper…He gave me 7 full hours last night (that’s my sleep not his) and I go to bed around 10pm…so, we have great progress people!

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but Brook has to hold Blake’s hand in every picture…I of course think that this is simply adorable!

The Dreaded Shots…

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Yesterday both Blake and Brook had their immunizations – well check doctor’s appointment.  I learned something from this…

I like when they are babies and have no idea what the word shots mean.

Brook flipped out…like I am pretty sure she scared every child in that doctor’s office kind of flip out.  Poor thing though had to wait forever once she found out she had to get her shots, so the anticipation was killing her!  I had to hold her down WWF style, so the nurse could give her four shots.  Then after that Blake got three.

Then the doctor informed me that we had to go and her her blood drawn today for testing…Like she wasn’t tortured enough already…but, we did it.  That took three nurses and myself to draw her blood.  I held her, one nurse held her arm, one took the blood and one held Blake.  At least for her it’s only once a year.

After it was all said and done, I took the kids to Barnes and Noble for a snack at the coffee shop and to buy a book for being so good while getting poked and prodded.  Now they have low grade fevers and feel crummy, but hopefully this will in the long run keep them healthy.

A Perfect Summer Afternoon…

Brook Playing in the Fountains at Desert Ridge

Today after I picked Brook up from school I took the kids to Desert Ridge as a special Friday treat.  We went to the toy store, had a snack at Rubio’s (Brook’s favorite) and then I let Brook splash around in the fountains.  There is nothing better than watching a smiling and laughing little girl cool off on a hot summer afternoon.

Blake was content sitting in his stroller, watching all the other kids splash around and have some fun.  Later, Travis met us and then we all went out to dinner and spent a wonderful summer evening together.

It’s moments like this that make me…

A) Fall in love with my husband all over again

B) Fall in love with my children even more

C) Reminds me that nothing is more important than family

D) Reminds me that my life is wonderful, amazing, happy and complete.
