My daughter’s 4th birthday was on July 9th. Now in true Newman style, a birthday isn’t a real birthday without celebrating it for as long as possible during your birthday month.
Brook is now an expert at this type of celebration.
Her first party was for her and her friends. Now since we know three other kids her age around these parts, guess how big her party was? It was tiny, but memorable nonetheless. We had the kids party at Chuck E Cheese in Gurnee. The smart part about this was we had it on July 5th and since it was on the holiday weekend, no one was there! In fact, her party was the only one booked there for that weekend…so, we basically had the place to ourselves! This made Chuck E Cheese dare I say enjoyable? Usually you leave there wanting to pull your hair out and scream, “dear god why me?” But, since there were just a handful of children there, it was actually fun!

Next we celebrated, just the four of us, on her actual birthday. She was told by Travis that she could have whatever she wanted to eat for breakfast and lo and behold, she took him up on her offer! She dined on Twizzlers and a chocolate milkshake that morning. Then she opened presents and tried out her new big girl bike that we got her. After that she chose to go to Wendy’s for lunch and then off to the movies to see Ice Age 3-D. Although, we didn’t see the “D” part of it…she’s still too young to wear the glasses and if she took them off, it would just be a big screen of fuzz…who wants to see that?

After the movie, Travis came up with the adorable plan of taking her fishing. It was so cute to see them get everything ready for their fishing adventure. They were actually gone for a long time too. I though it was a great bonding time for them. That is until Travis caught the “big one.” Meaning he caught himself. OUCH! He dropped Brook off here and after a few tries of tugging it out himself, he ended up going to urgent care to have them remove it and to get a tetanus shot. Ah…it’s always about the story.

The next day, I took her back to Grams and Papa’s house so she could catch the train with Grams to Chicago to go and have tea with her American Doll, Kit, at the American Doll store. I heard they had a wonderful time being fancy and then afterward Papa met them in the city and they saw a live performance of Mary Poppins. This girl wants for nothing I say.
Finally, because all of this wasn’t enough, we decided to take her and Blake to Wisconsin Dells and play around in the waterparks for a couple of days. She had a blast and actually went on a couple of big kid water-slides and rode them like a champ. We also played some mini-golf and went into a top-secret White House building…it was a sad, sad attempt at a cool idea where the White House flipped over and everything that should be on the floor is on the roof. Cool concept – lousy interpretation.
All in all she had a pretty amazing birthday. The funny thing is she is already talking about becoming five…give it time sweetie, give it time.
