Nightly Fit…

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

So right now both kids are in there room crying.  Blake, because he probably isn’t quite tired yet since he slept most of the day and also because he is slightly under the weather and Brook is having one of her nighttime fits.

I blame myself for these fits…

See, I think my brain shuts off at 7pm, like it wants to check out for the night, but since this job is 24/7 I can’t quite do that.  Unfortunately, my emotions get the best of me, so I tend to loose it around this time.  Tonight she wouldn’t brush her teeth and take her medicine.  Bribery wasn’t working and the punishments weren’t working…so I did the only thing I knew, which was get pissed off.  I know, I’m the adult and I know that I should have a more calm demeanor, but I ended up brushing her teeth for her which she hated and after her spitting out the medicine twice, Travis came in to make sure the medicine went in…not fun.

So now she’s crying because books and songs aren’t being done tonight and when I gave in and told her I would sing her a song…she said she needed a book too…Needless to say, that broke the song deal all together.

Ahhhhh power struggles…don’t ya just love them.

I wish I could handle them with grace and ease, but I haven’t thus far…there is always tomorrow.  I just hate when I raise my voice and get angry.  It’s like I’m her own personal monster.  Maybe I am…Mother and monster sounds kinda close.

Okay…the house has calmed down.  Travis soothed Brook to sleep and Blake gave into sleep.  Deep breath as I say to myself, “it can only get better.”  Tomorrow, I will be more calm…Tomorrow I will try to step back and calm myself before making any decision that isn’t ideal.  Tomorrow I WILL handle difficult situations with style and grace…I will try to be a better Mother.

Man, I was such a great Mother before I was a Mother.  Anyway, nighty night all…we will try to get it right again tomorrow.

My Immune System Knows Better

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I know, I know I am going to go out of sequence.  I should first talk about the trip Up North and then talk about how the whole Newman clan is under quarantine right now, but right now this is more important in my life.

The Newman’s are sick!

All four of us were not all there yesterday driving home.  I said, “oh it’s allergies” and I also said, “it’s because we are tired and it was so cold up there this week.”  But, no, it’s because we Newman’s decided to all get sick at the exact same time!  Oh joy of joys!

Now my immune system usually knows better and I am normally spared from the Newman illnesses that float around here.  My body typically understands that Moms are not allowed to be sick.  They can’t rest properly and usually they have to care for everyone else who come down with whatever is in the air at that time.  My body and I had an understanding…I stay healthy and in turn I am able to nurse everyone else back into health.

My body is on strike because I got sick right along with the rest of them.  This is what torture must feel like.

I am sicker than a dog and last night  I was taking care of Brook and Blake, hoping Travis is sleeping off being sick himself so then, just maybe, he can relieve me in the morning.  This is Blake’s first cold and while so far it isn’t a bad one and he doesn’t have a temperature….he is having a hard time breathing since he is stuffed up and that is just making him miserable.  Brook also is having some really wonderfully scary coughing fits in the middle of the night.  Not enough to be dangerous, but bad enough to scare me out of my bed and into her room for a once over.

Travis did indeed see me this morning when he woke up and decided maybe a little R&R might help me.  Then he gave me a drug cocktail to help get me on the road to health…I don’t think it’s working.  It is his turn to sleep right now and by god I really wish it wasn’t.  All my head wants to do is be on a pillow…It feels like it’s about 50 pounds.  Maybe it is, I ate so much on vacation, maybe it is.

Okay, well back to mending the sick so Abby can come back and help us.

Next time we will leave the viral bug in Minocqua, because lord knows I don’t want it here.

Year In Pictures Day 2-6

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

We have been on vacation for the past five days, so I was unable to upload these separately.  Seeing that it is late and I think we have all caught colds, I am going to make this a short one and then hit the hay…really, this will be all about the pictures…vacation story will follow.

A Year In Pictures…

So, this isn’t a new idea…

I think I might have been inspired by Shannon’s Picture of the Day and/or the YouTube guy who already did this…

Actually, he took six years worth of pictures…amazing!

So, for my own experiment, I am going to take a picture of Brook and Blake for one full year.
WHY?
Well, they change sooooo fast. We all know that. Also, nothing makes you understand the concept of time more than seeing how children grow and develop.  Just for the records, this experiment/project started when Brook was 4 years 1 month and Blake is about 5 1/2 months old.

Here is the first of 365 pictures…maybe, I can figure out how to make them into a cool YouTube Video once I am done…I bet it will be fascinating to see their changes in the course of that year…at least to me!

Please let’s all notice the very nautical clothing my kids are wearing…it took around 45 minutes to get them dressed for this.  I think there will be a lot of messy hair and pajama shots in the future.  Also, check out Blake’s drool…yummy!

Kids Say The Darnest Things…

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

So tonight we took a family walk around the neighborhood, because we knew we wanted to go out for ice cream and thought, “well burning a few of those calories might help our waistlines slightly.”

On this walk Brook said to Travis…

“Dad, stop walking like a Pimp!”

HAAAAAA!  Hilarious…I asked her how she knew the word Pimp and she then sang this song…

I got money – I don’t need a raise…

I’m a Pimp – I don’t need a cane…

Okay, so rap music is now officially out of the Newman house :) .  This is the influence of Abby, she admitted…and honestly, it’s fine, I just am so amazed how their brains absorb everything…EVERYTHING!

When Brook said her Pimp statement, it made me think of this clip of JD and Turk on Scrubs.

So, Daddy…stop walkin’ like a Pimp, unless you are walkin’ to me…

Nuff Said!
