Will Brook be a Swimmer One Day Like Her Mommy?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

So, I know I want my children to be sports children.  I want them to pick something they love and/or have a passion for.  The idea is to introduce them to lots of sports and have them naturally lean toward what they like and then focus on that particular sport.

I myself was a swimmer…loved it and I was decently good at it.  I swam from 9 years old till I was 17.  It was great because I liked being part of a team, but also competing individually.  It just worked for my personality.

Well, today I swam some laps for my workout and when I came home, Brook wanted to try on my goggles and cap.

Maybe she will become a swimmer…(I say this as I am crossing my fingers hoping among all hopes that she does become one).  We will see!

My Blake is Going Through Something.

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

So Blake woke up today at 4am and was all, “Hey what are we doing today?  Sleep?  Who needs sleep, I don’t, do you?”  It was not fun.  The thing is the past three days or so he has been crying off the hook!  So, if he is awake, he is basically crying the whole time.  He does know how to smile, case in point…

Cute huh???  Yeah, I know, because he is awake and happy.  Here is a picture of him sleeping…he does know how to sleep…

So see, he knows how to do both…but, he isn’t doing either.  It is driving me crazy.  I thought he might be coming down with something, but he has no temperature and when I called the doctor, they told me that unless he is showing signs of illness he probably is okay.  I know logic would tell me this is true, but I had to hear it from them.  I just did.  Travis thought is was/is an ear infection, but again the nurse said it probably isn’t if he isn’t showing signs of a runny or stuffed up nose.

So basically he is just fussy?  Arrrggg…I don’t like that answer.  There isn’t much I can do about that one.  And hopefully the not sleeping is a phase because he is sleeping right now at this second, so hopefully there will be a trend leaning in the more sleeping area.  We will keep you posted.

A Taste of The Old Me…

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Sometimes I just need a taste of the old me.  So on Saturday night, my friend Shannon and I joined a bunch of Shannon’s friends and we did a pub crawl.  It was super fun and in the middle of the night, I had a conversation in my head about how much I miss me before children and how much fun partying is and how much I love to dance at  night clubs and drink beer and talk to adults.  It was a great time.  I met new friends of Shannon’s who were super cool and fun to be around.  I forced Shannon to karaoke If I Had a Million Dollars by BNL, which is one of our favorite songs.  Here is a great picture of us making fools of ourselves because we are NOT singers…

It was an absolutely amazing night.  But, in the end I learned something.  I loved my 20′s, I loved all the partying I did and all the “going” out that happend and although it is fun to do it once in awhile now, it isn’t who I am currently.  I know that because in the morning when I woke up at Shannon’s (spent the night as to not drive home intoxicated and to sleep in a little), I was dying to get home and be with my family.  I was looking forward to my responsibility of taking care of the kids so Travis could get some well deserved sleep after daddy-sitting that night.  I learned I love the sound of Mommy, but I also learned I love being Jolene from time to time too!

Sometimes Others Have to Remind Me…

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Yesterday we took Brook to Mojo’s for a treat (it’s a frozen yogurt shop).  She received a positive report from her teacher this week, which Travis and I thought deserved a little kudos seeing that she was the devil child last week.  For a better understanding of what I mean click here

Anyway, we were eating our frozen treats and I looked across the way at White House / Black Market and asked Travis if we could stop in so I can look around.  I have nothing to wear since the only clothes I have are maternity clothes or clothes I used to fit in before I was pregnant.  On Saturday, I am hanging out with my girlfriend Shannon and I wanted to feel pretty.  So, I went in totally expecting to find something fabulous.

I found a few items to try on and I got into the dressing room.  Oh, how horrible of an experience that was.  Same ole story, nothing looks good on the body I have now and I start to go into a serious depression about what I am looking at in the mirror.  The saleslady kept asking me how I was doing and my response was, “I’d be great if I didn’t have this body…it makes all the clothes look horrible!”  To that she replied, “well, at least you have a beautiful family.”  My god she is right!  Sometimes others have to remind me…because I tend to forget what’s really important once in awhile.

The Scottsdale Culinary Festival

Monday, April 20th, 2009

So, I am a well documented foodie.  I should have been a chef, but culinary school was seriously too expensive after graduating from ASU.  I already had student loans and I couldn’t afford to take on more debt.  Instead, I worked for Aramark for 5 years as a Food Service Director.  I wore every single hat that you can possibly wear in a restaurant, including a toque.  I read tons of culinary and/or cook books, and I learned how to cook on the job.  Seriously all I do is watch the Food Network if I am watching TV and I watch all of the restaurant reality TV shows…Hell’s Kitchen, Next Food Network Star and Top Chef.  Dare I say, I am a pretty damn good cook and deep in my gut I feel that if given the chance, I could be on one of those reality TV shows and I might just be a major contender even…winner!

Well, now that you have the background you will know why I asked to go to the Scottsdale Culinary Festival for our five year wedding anniversary gift.  It was a chance to be surrounded by my loving husband, food and wine/beer.  It was perfect!  Mom watched the children all day and Travis and I had an all access pass to the event.  We went to Cooks and Corks, which was a wine and food tasting venue.  There they had cooking demos from some of the reality celebrity chefs from Hell’s Kitchen and Top Chef.  It was exciting to be there and I have to say it was soooo yummy.  I must admit though, I should of not kidded myself when I thought I wouldn’t drink too much, because I did…it was fabulous!

After we were done the the venue, we decided to venture outside to the beer garden.  They give you this little mini-mug and for $1.00 a pour, you could try 100′s of different beers.  We didn’t try all of them, but we tried to!  Pretty soon we were socializing with others and drunk dialing our friends to tell them how much fun we were having.  Silly I know, but hey it’s what we do.

Finally it was time to go home and of course we didn’t get enough to eat at the Food Festival, so we stopped at Papa Murphy’s for some pizza.  It was a great time spending grown up time with my honey…Love Ya Babe :)
